Hannah M. Bayer is the Chief Scientist for the Kavli HUMAN Project (KHP) and New York University’s (NYU) Institute for the Interdisciplinary Study of Decision Making (IISDM), as well as a Research Associate Professor of Decision Sciences. Dr. Bayer’s work focuses on using the tools of informatics to study how people make decisions in their natural habitat, with a particular interest in the analysis of urban big data to address these research questions. Prior to joining KHP and IISDM, she was an Associate and then a Senior Editor at Nature Neuroscience where she managed all aspects of the editorial process and journal operations. Dr. Bayer completed her post-doctoral research at Columbia University’s Center for the Decision Sciences, where she conducted functional magnetic resonance imaging studies of human risk perception and risky decision making. She was a recipient of the National Institutes of Health National Research Service Award and the National Science Foundation’s Graduate Research Fellowship, and has published articles in numerous scholarly journals, including Neuron, the Journal of Neurophysiology, and the Journal of Neuroscience Methods. She received her B.A. in biology with a concentration in cellular and molecular biology from Haverford College, and her Ph.D. in neuroscience with a specialization in systems neuroscience from NYU.
